June 21, Monday 7-9 PM, SOLSTICE SUNSET watching from the McKenna boathouse deck in Shorewood Hills on Lake Mendota, at Lake Mendota and Edgehill Drives.
Limited facilities; soda pop, beer and cups provided; bring your own wine and snacks, but no glass.

June 30 - July 5, Bensheim architecture students in Madison

Tuesday, June 29
Bensheim group coming in rental vans from Chicago via Milwaukee to arrive Tuesday eve.
Meeting place yet to be decided on: either Short Course dorm at the end of Babcock drive on western part of campus, or at Unitarian Meeting House, 900 University Bay Dr., or at vonS, 3555 Tally Ho Lane, or ... some other place with parking and easy to find. Host families may pick up their guest there, or we will drive them to the host family.

9:30AM - meet at Commercial Avenue campus - tour the facilities and the Construction and Remodeling student cabin
10:30AM - drive to Truax campus
10:45AM - tour the Cabinetmaking facilities
11:30AM - lunch at Truax
12:30AM - 3:00PM - tour the Architectural Technician facilities and get introduced to the 3D Revit design software.

Thursday, July 1.
Taliesin, or House on the Rock, and Wisconsin River canoe paddle.
Meet at 10:30 (or 12:30 for canoeing only) for the drive to Spring Green.
(Meet at the same place where Bensheimers arrived on Tuesday eve)
The Hillside Tour.leaves from the Visitor Center at the highway 23 Wisconsin River bridge, and lasts for 1 hour, every day at 11:30 a.m., (also at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. $16 per person ($14 seniors, students).

Some of the Bensheimers may instead continue to the House on the Rock with its eclectic collections, a few miles south of the visitor center on highway 23, which is not connected with FLW and Taliesin.
1:00 PM lunch at the Wisconsin River Resort. http://www.bobsriverside.com, across the river from Taliesin. north on highway 23 across the Wisconsin River, then west on Madison Street in Spring Green and follow the sign.
2:00 PM rent canoes and shuttle upriver to the highway 14 bridge ($ 15/person), then paddle and drift back to the Resort. Swimming, nature watching, picnic on a sand-bar.
4:00+ drive back to Madison.

Friday, July 2
All day open for visits not yet scheduled.
8:30-11:30 PM Disco Dance in the Shorewood Hills Fire Station, Shorewood Blvd at Topping Road.

Saturday - Monday, July 3-5
no group activities planned

Tuesday, 6.7.
8:30 meet at Unitarian Meeting House, 900 University Bay Dr. Guided tour lead by Prof. John Powell of this original FLW church with a recent addition in the compatible prairie style, which is LEED Platinum certified.
~11:00 Bensheimers leave for Chicago's O'Hare airport.

July 24, Saturday 3-5PM, CAPITAL BREWERY, 7734 Terrace Ave., Middleton, 836-7100
On warm Saturdays the brewery's beer garden is more like a community picnic with beer, coolers, families and live music. Skate park across the street.

This beer garden is about a half-hour from Madison but is well worth the trip! Live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. It's a dog-friendly, Frisbee-throwing, kids-unleashed kind of place.

The historic 1916 Mount Horeb Creamery was transformed into a restaurant and brewery in 1996. It has a full lunch and dinner menu.
The Grumpy Troll is NOW solar and generates its own power. Bike there on the Military Ridge Trail during fall foliage.

Nov 16 Wed 7PM, Growing up in East Germany: Hennning Wrage (, and maybe Mike vonS) reminiscing.
Also: Reactions in East Germany when the wall came down by Henning. Location to be announced.

Meetings do not require reservation. We are trying some new venues for our summer social gatherings (Stammtisch), where there is no program or meeting agenda. At wineries and beer gardens everybody buys his/her beverage there and optionally brings snacks to share for the group. Look for a table with a little German or Freiburg flag or the larger Madison-Freiburg banner.
